The Elasticity Mindset

How a Simple Economic Principle Taught Me to Build a Smoother, Healthier & Happier Life: The Elasticity Mindset
If you’ve ever studied economics, you might remember the concept of Price Elasticity of Demand — a technical term that shows how quantity demanded changes with respect to price changes.
But today, I want to share how this seemingly academic topic has reshaped my thinking as an Edupreneur, team leader, and human being. 🌱
📚 What is Price Elasticity of Demand? (A Quick Recap)
At its core, it’s about :
“How much does quantity demanded change due to a change in price?”
There are 5 types :
1. Perfectly Elastic Demand – People switch instantly even with the tiniest price change.
2. Relatively Elastic Demand – A small price change causes a larger change in demand.
3. Unitary Elastic – Price and demand change equally.
4. Relatively Inelastic – Even big price changes cause small demand shifts.
5. Perfectly Inelastic – No matter what, demand doesn’t change.
💡 The Deeper Lesson: Be Elastic Where It Matters
Here's the life-changing entrepreneurial insight:
“Your ability to adapt to change determines the quality of your life and success in business.”
Let me translate each elasticity type into life and mindset lessons 👇
1️⃣ Perfectly Elastic Demand → Don't be too fragile
If your mindset or energy collapses with the tiniest inconvenience or challenge (like a slight “price” in your comfort), you’re too “elastic.”
Lesson: Build resilience. Don’t break at every challenge. Choose your battles wisely.
2️⃣ Relatively Elastic Demand → Be flexible in growth opportunities
As an entrepreneur, you must respond quickly to changes in market demands, trends, or consumer behavior.
Lesson: Be proactive. React fast when the return (impact or growth) is high. For example, if Instagram Reels are booming, leverage them!
3️⃣ Unitary Elastic → Balance in action and outcome
Understand which efforts give you proportional returns. Whether in marketing, team training, or personal development—seek actions that are worth your energy.
Lesson: Maintain balance between what you give and what you expect.
4️⃣ Relatively Inelastic Demand → Be stubborn about your values
Not everything should shift with external noise. For instance, your commitment to integrity, your mission, or education reform shouldn't sway easily.
Lesson: Stay firm on foundational beliefs—even when conditions change.
5️⃣ Perfectly Inelastic Demand → Don't ignore change completely
Some people are rigid and unchanging—like demand that stays constant even when prices soar.
Lesson: This may work for “basic needs,” but in life and business, you must adapt to stay relevant.
🌱 The Entrepreneurial Mindset: The Real Elasticity
Being an entrepreneur is not just about making money—it’s about developing a life skill of adaptability.
✅ Elastic when there’s growth
✅ Inelastic when there’s principle
Just like a good product survives because of how its demand responds to price, you thrive when you know when to bend and when to stand firm.
🧠 Teaching This to Students & Teams: A Practical Example
Imagine you're launching a new foundation course at your institute.
If your pricing goes slightly up, and students stop enrolling → your demand is elastic.
If the response stays strong regardless of price, you’ve built inelastic demand—maybe because of your brand trust or outcome assurance.
Teach students:
“In life, don’t react instantly to discomfort. Observe how much something is worth before deciding whether to change or stay.”
Teach teams:
“Know where you need to adapt fast (like customer complaints or poor performance), and where you should be firm (like your core value system).”
💬 Final Thought: Elasticity is Emotional Intelligence
The best leaders, teachers, and entrepreneurs are emotionally and mentally elastic in the right way.
They:
- Listen without ego.
- Adjust strategies without compromising purpose.
- Move fast when needed, and slow down when necessary.
🧩 To Digest for Life:
“The more wisely you decide where to be elastic and where to be inelastic, the smoother, healthier, and happier your journey becomes.”
This is not just a business model—it’s a life model.
Empowering young minds through structured thinking and adaptive wisdom.
